INTRODUCTION

How I got Started...

In November of 2020, I was elected as the Vice President of Public Relations and Marketing for my on campus sorority, the Delta Zeta chapter of Alpha Chi Omega at Central Michigan University. As apart of taking on this role, my main goal as VP PR&M was to create content that not only engaged and excited current members but also PNMs or potential new members to promote 2021 Spring Informal Recruitment, Fall 2021 Formal Panhellenic Recruitment, as well as establish a brand for our chapter for future recruitments and to create a respectable and tasteful name within our Central Michigan community. I also wanted to showcase all the things that make our chapter great to not only promote our followers to go greek but to show interest in Alpha Chi specifically during recruitment through content creation.

Both screenshots are taken straight from the already established Alpha Chi Instagram page. The images shows above are from December 2020-February 2021. At this point and time I was going for a crisp, white theme with a few hints of color. I edited these photos through the app Lightroom and bought a number of different presets from Etsy to help assist in the editing process.

Another integral part of my position was to create Instagram stories that were easily sharable by chapter members to post on their personal Instagram stories to further promote recruitment. While we were already reaching an audience of 1.5K at the time of 2021 Spring Informal Recruitment by posting on our chapter Instagram, by encouraging our members to promote recruitment we were able to reach an even bigger audience. Not to mention, I always made sure to tag Central Michigan's Panhellenic Council's Instagram onto all of our Instagram Story graphics so that account would also share the graphics, furthering our overall reach for recruitment. Most of these graphics were created through different editing apps including PicsArt, Canva, and Phonto. For the image outline sketch above I utilized an iPad and Photoshop functions to create the cartooned sketch of sisters. Listed below are recruitment graphics that were sized to fit the Instagram story dimensions

For the first and third recruitment promotions, I utilized travel photos chapter members had posted in our chapter Photo Circle, an app we use to share photos with our chapter PR team and Panhellenic Council PR team. These are just a few examples of the type of content that was used, posted and promoted on our chapter pages during Spring 2021 Informal Recruitment to promote Alpha Chi Omega specifically.

Chapter VSCO Page: @alphachi-cmich

When I chose to run for Vice President of Public Relations and Marketing, one of the things I wanted to bring to the table was a chapter VSCO page. I had seen other sororities on Central Michigan's campus and other campuses' doing something somewhat similar. I had also noticed how much content girls were submitting into our PhotoCircle and how much of it was not being utilized. I felt that creating a chapter VSCO page would be another source of content for PNMs to take a look at when researching the different sororities on Central/s campus.

Another feature of VSCO I utilized was the collection feature. It almost works as a 'retweet' feature for VSCO photos in a sense. Throughout the creation of this page I tried to encourage chapter members to create. VSCO account and to post images specifically with sisters along with pictures from past travels, etc. I would then republish their posts and they would go into our collection tab. This is a feature that viewers can access and would link them directly to our chapter members' pages and VSCO content.

Another social media platform I created a chapter account on to help with social media chapter operations is Linktr.ee. I noticed our chapter would always promote different philanthropies, recruitment seasons, and other varying links. We originally did not have a Linktr.ee and we would continuously switch between what was linked in our bio at the time depending on what we wanted to promote at that specific time.

Instead of continuously replacing and removing different links from our chapter Instagram bio, I chose to create a Linktr.ee. I felt that by doing this our chapter could promote a number of different links at a time, and then we wouldn't have to pick and choose what links felt most important at the time to be placed in the chapter Instagram biography.

The Linktr.ee is something we as a chapter are updating on a regular basis as we choose to promote new links, recruitment sign-up sheets and grow our social media presence.

Another new addition to our chapter links is our Wix Website. As apart of my position I manage a committee of five members, Assistant Public Relations, Secretary, Historian, Website Coordinator and PACE Chair (Promoting Alpha Chi Everyday). The updated 2021 Wix Website for our chapter was created by my Website Coordinator in December of 2020.
